It's an electronic tuner, cassette deck and CD player all-in-one. And each listening option is easily accessible because it's right at the driver's finger tips. Four speakers -- including two tweeters -- are strategically placed to provide superb playback capabilities. Driving just doesn't get better than this. Surprisingly, the key to reducing hair-do destruction is not simply to block air flow over and around the cabin, but to reduce the amount of air that "doubles back" into the passenger compartment. To do this, the engineers have equipped MR2 Spyder with a specially designed air deflector. It is the smallest one possible to block the greatest amount of back flow. It is also transparent so it doesn't block the driver's rearward vision. Air management technology has also been employed to enhance MR2 Spyder's road manners. "Spats" have been positioned ahead of each front tire. These serve to channel air-flow around and outside of the tires. This creates a negative pressure zone underneath the chassis. The result? Naturally occurring downforces enhance MR2 Spyder's road hugging abilities. The term "sticks like glue" seems more than appropriate.
Styling Convention-rattling design rooted in sports car heritage... The look of the all-new MR2 Spyder is accentuated by a rising wedge shape and door sections with generous character lines. Side air intakes give a strong visual identity of the sports car driving experience. The sum is a car that is both highly sporty and exceptionally distinctive. The soft top is manually operated, for light weight, and features a two-division, linked operation. The link mechanism allows the top to be stored neatly and evenly, and prevents the upper face from reversing during folding. The rear window is made of tempered glass and includes a defogger, ensuring exceptional rearward vision and durability. To emphasize the MR2 Spyder's sportiness, the combination instrument panel places the tachometer in the center, for greatest visibility. The tachometer redline area is marked by dots. On the left is the speedometer, with a combination fuel gauge, coolant temperature gauge and warning light cluster on the right. The instrument faces are silver, another detail that contributes to the modern look of the instrument panel. The lightweight aluminum sport pedals are properly placed for optimum control, even during enthusiastic driving, while the driver-side footrest provides a comfortable resting spot for the driver's left foot during cruising. Holes in the surfaces of the pedals and footrest give a sporty image and racing-inspired style.
